NIELSEN COMPLETES LIONS SEPTET

Leicester’s team manager Jason Attwood has looked towards Scandinavia again to complete his team in readiness for the 2012 season with the signing of Denmark’s Simon Nielsen yesterday.

The twenty-one year old first raced in this country towards the end of last season when Workington offered him a team place and from twelve appearances for the Cumbrian club Simon averaged 3.76 points a meeting with his best performances coming in the final two fixtures when he posted double figure returns. “I would just like to say that I'm happy to be a part of the Leicester club for 2012 and to help the team challenge for the top of the league” said Nielsen after agreeing terms with Leicester.

Nielsen’s inclusion brings the Lions team total points average for next season to 42.08 just 0.42 below the maximum allowed which was part of Attwood’s plan to build a team as close to the limit as possible and also to include riders who had the potential to improve upon their starting match average.

“I first saw Simon Nielsen ride last season in practice at Scunthorpe and was impressed with what I saw. He's a good friend of Lasse Bjerre and he gained an insight of what Premier League racing was all about at Workington. Unfortunately, newcomer’s to this country are given an assessed average of seven points to begin with until they ride a certain number of matches to gain a true average which meant that Simon had to begin his career in the main body of Workington’s side. This is always a tall order but towards the end of last season he moved into one of the reserve berths in the Workington team and scored double points. I see Simon improving on his 3.76 average and believe that we have people in the team to help him develop both on and off the track” commented Jason Attwood.
